The North Star Pavilion is an 18,000 square foot space dedicated to pediatric hospice, the first purpose-built, children’s hospice in the Northeast and the fifth in the nation. The design considers what a space must provide to patients and their families. The space includes a new dedicated entrance which provides direct, efficient access to patients and a starry sky element which is installed in each of the four private suites that will accommodate loved ones. This sky component, a celestial symbol of inspiration and hope is repeated throughout each of the spaces; dedicated entrance, separate lounge and dining areas, each which echo the transitional nature of life, serving as a reminder of the magic of the twinkling heavens.
