725 W. Randolph hotel and apartment tower is a mixed-use project that acts as the gateway from downtown Chicago to the West Loop. The tower rests on a base that is enveloped in the same grid as the building above to create light and transparency. Amenities include plaza-like sidewalks, high-end retail space, and restaurants on the ground level, as well as multiple entrance ways for the health club, spa, hotel, and residences. The lower and upper portions of the building are tied together with a structural grid of steel, aluminum, and glass, which is given an added layer of texture and depth with a concave, “inverted” reimagining of the classic Chicago School three-part window.
